RI is dedicated to addressing the long-term developmental needs of beneficiaries, even while in the emergency phase. While disasters take a profound emotional and financial toll, they can also be as a window of opportunity for eradicating poverty and social injustice.
RI focuses on serving people who typically have not received due attention. RI believes that, as a humanitarian agency, one of its main functions is to communicate the needs of vulnerable populations to the international community. Consequently, RI works closely with the local communities it serves to ensure that programs do not impose solutions from the outside but, instead, addresses long-term needs and requirements.
