Devastating Flooding in the Philippines

Continous rain from the Southwest Monsoon and Cyclone Carina has caused flash flooding and landslides in numerous regions of the Philippines with over 3,000,000 people affected.

The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Tropical Cyclone Carina has caused intense, continous rains across 7 regions, 17 provinces, and 53 cities/municipalities in the Philippines.

According to the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) for the Philippines, the recent extreme weather has affected 3,000,000 people, with over 270,000 of these people currently displaced from their homes.

Relief International has been responding rapidly ever since the start of the crisis.

We have distributed 150 hygiene kits to 150 households, 75 households received the kits in three barangays in the Municipality of Ligawasan, Special Geographic Area, while another  75 households recieved kits in Barangay Dalgan, Municipality of Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur. The hygiene kits comprised dental kits, sanitary kits, and water containers for potable water.

Alongside the distribution of hygiene kits, an orientation was conducted on the importance of routine immunization, sanitation and
hygiene promotion, protection messages, and safeguarding policies, with participation from 143 participants in Ligawasan and 131 in Pagalungan.

Moving forward, in partnership with UNICEF and the Rural Health Units of Ligawasan and Pagalungan, Relief International will continue to conduct vaccinations for children below five years old to protect them from illness and potential outbreaks.

It remains uncertain when the flooding across the country will subside, but Relief International is committed to continuing to support communities most affected by this crisis.
